The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) found that a Wizz Air Flight 4511 carrying 168 passengers and crew came within seconds of disaster after its pilots made an error while programming the aircraft’s computer system during take-off. The Boeing 737-800 was departing London Luton Airport for Athens last April when the pilots failed to update the aircraft’s management computer after being instructed to use an intersection departure rather than the full length of the runway. As a result, the aircraft lifted off from a shorter distance than planned and was already expected to be 36 feet in the air by the point where it became airborne. “A change from the planned departure point led to the aircraft taking off with an incorrect power setting,” the AAIB report claimed. The error meant the aircraft was operating with less power than required, causing it to take longer to leave the runway and climb more slowly. The pilot in command had more than 10,000 hours of flying experience and was considered highly experienced, according to The Times. The flight was operated by Ascend Airways, a U.K.-based carrier that collapsed in April following a surge in oil prices. This includes revealing that Kim’s various estates come equipped with swimming pools, superyachts, and even equestrian tracks. “These are places where Kim Jong Un grew up,” said Michael Madden, an expert on North Korea leadership. “He probably maintained the high taste levels.”

An Air Canada plane veered off the runway Thursday after landing at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, leaving passengers stuck on board for three hours before they were allowed to get off. The Boeing 737 MAX was carrying 156 passengers and six crew members on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport to Montreal. The plane landed normally before “leaving the taxiway after landing,” according to a post on X. Air Canada said the aircraft had “traveled through the grass when exiting the main runway.” No injuries were reported, but passengers were reportedly left waiting aboard the aircraft as they tried to determine what had happened and when they would be allowed to disembark. “We were going very fast, and suddenly there was a big smoke smell and the next thing I knew, we were tumbling on the grass,” passenger Edelston Peterson told CBC. “We didn’t know if [it] was going to blow up,” she added. A small passenger plane was forced to make an emergency landing in the waters off Haiti on Wednesday, forcing its pilot and two passengers to swim for safety. The twin-engine Cessna 402B, operated by ZED Airlines as Flight 6502, was traveling from Cap-Haïtien to Port-au-Prince when it went down near Ibo Beach shortly after 11 a.m. Images and video from the scene showed the aircraft partially submerged in shallow water as the three occupants made their way toward shore. All three people aboard survived the incident without serious injuries. Emergency responders were dispatched to the area, and the passengers were later rescued with assistance from a helicopter. In a statement, ZED Airlines said the passengers and pilot were receiving support and praised the pilot’s actions during the emergency. A passenger was left dangling halfway out of a plane window after a terrifying in-flight emergency, with fellow travelers forced to grab hold of him to stop him falling out of the aircraft.

The drama unfolded aboard a Ryanair Boeing 737-800 flying from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Memmingen, Germany, after a cabin window dislodged shortly after takeoff. The aircraft was forced to turn back and land in Greece.

The plane had climbed to around 20,000 feet when passengers heard a sudden bang. One traveler told Greek state broadcaster ERT that the noise sounded “like a tire bursting” before panic spread through the cabin as the aircraft lost pressure.

Sources told The Washington Post that the Trump administration and the Secret Service want to install fences on Pennsylvania Avenue NW to provide additional security for the president, who has faced three assassination attempts in the past two years.

Construction workers were spotted at the White House on Thursday putting up new tarps featuring columns on them as the president focuses on another renovation project.

Workers had previously erected the scaffolding around the North Portico of the White House late last month, signaling that more work was set to begin.

But this particular project is being covered with tarps made to look exactly like the exterior of the White House, as the building has been overrun by numerous construction projects since Trump, 80, began his second term.

Wally Funk, the oldest woman to have gone into space, died at the age of 87 on Wednesday in her home in Grapevine, Texas. The city of Grapevine announced that she had died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Born in 1939, Funk grew up in the mountain town of Taos, New Mexico, where her fascination with flight began early on. By age 19, Funk had earned certifications to fly both gliders and seaplanes, and after graduating from Oklahoma State University, she became the first female civilian flight instructor at Fort Sill, an Army base in Oklahoma. She later worked as a pilot, flight instructor, air safety investigator, and one of the first female inspectors for the Federal Aviation Administration. Over the course of her career, she logged more than 19,000 hours in the air and taught thousands of aspiring pilots how to fly. But even with her long list of accomplishments, despite several attempts, she was never able to fulfill her dream of becoming a NASA astronaut. Six decades after her first attempt, however, Funk made her dream come true at 82 and blasted off aboard Blue Origin New Shepard rocket alongside Jeff Bezos and two other passengers in 2021. The flight lasted just over 10 minutes and crossed the internationally recognized boundary of space, making Funk the oldest person to travel to space. After landing, she stepped out from the capsule grinning from ear to ear. “I loved every minute of it. I just wish it had been longer,” she said. In a statement after her passing, Blue Origin hailed Funk as “a pioneer in every sense of the word” and said they were “humbled to be part of her journey.”

Two and a Half Men actor will pay his ex-wife Brooke Mueller $500,000 in back child support for their now 17-year-old twin sons, according to a settlement agreement signed Tuesday by a Los Angeles judge. Half the sum must be paid by Friday, July 10, and the rest is due Sept. 1. The agreement also requires Sheen to cover Mueller’s attorneys’ fees of $60,000 by October 15. USA Today reports that in December, the actress filed a motion stating that Sheen owed her nearly $9 million in child support for twins Max and Bob, $6 million in interest, and $25,000 in legal fees. The recent agreement came after Sheen “considered the risk of litigation and costs thereof and has decided that it is preferable to settle these issues rather than to be subjected to the uncertainties associated with the litigation process.” The two stars had a dramatic three years of marriage from 2008 to 2011 in which both entered rehab, Sheen was arrested for domestic abuse and Mueller obtained a restraining order against Sheen, following their divorce filing.

The book, which details her post-divorce dating life as a single mom, is based on her viral essay published on The Cut. “After becoming a single mom, I began compulsively dating in order to figure out what kind of woman I wanted to be,” reads the essay’s opening. The sequel to the model’s My Body, a series of essays she published in 2021, shares about the Gone Girl star’s path to a new sense of womanhood following her split with ex-husband Sebastian Bear-McClard in 2022, with whom she shares her son, Sylvester Apollo Bear, 5. Ratajkowski’s spicy book, in which she features anecdotes of her newfound dating life with countless men, including a “heavily self-medicated Son of a Billionaire with questionable politics,” “several Italians,” and multiple DJs, was sold to Penguin Press. The 35-year-old actress announced the upcoming book to her 20 million Instagram followers on June 12.

A flight instructor who leaped to his death from a small plane mid-lesson had secretly been undergoing psychiatric treatment, his family has revealed.

Leandro Bertazzo, 42, jumped from the pilot’s seat of a two-seat Cessna 150 on July 4 over Toledo, in Argentina’s Córdoba province, leaving his 22-year-old student to land the aircraft alone. As the Daily Beast reported on Tuesday, the trainee held a pilot’s license but had only limited flying hours behind her.

Meghan McCain has some major “regrets” about the aftermath of her late father’s diagnosis, she shared on Thursday amid continued calls for Mitch McConnell to share “proof of life” with the public.

The former co-host of The View followed up an X post in which she’d allegedly “made fun” of McConnell’s disappearance from public life after an apparent medical emergency by divulging that she wished she’d urged her father, then-Arizona Senator John McCain, to step down when he was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2017.

“I also have a lot of regrets, almost a decade since my dad’s passing,” she wrote.

Taco Bell has temporarily removed several fresh ingredients from some restaurants as health officials investigate a growing outbreak of the Cyclospora parasite, which can trigger bouts of “explosive,” watery diarrhea. Signs posted at several Michigan locations say lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole and cilantro-onion mix are unavailable. The ingredients are used in menu items including tacos, the Crunchwrap Supreme, and some Cantina Chicken offerings. The move comes as Michigan battles its largest recorded cyclosporiasis outbreak, with nearly 1,000 confirmed cases. Only 40 of those cases have required hospitalization. Health authorities have not identified the source of the parasite and it remains unclear whether any Taco Bell customers have been infected. Cyclospora spreads through contaminated water or raw produce contaminated with human waste, and it can take up to two weeks to cause symptoms. Seventeen states, including New York, Texas, Ohio, and Virginia, have reported cases. No deaths have been reported.
