Donald Trump appeared in Las Vegas late Wednesday with a noticeably fuller head of hair, immediately sparking speculation about what was behind the makeover.
The 80-year-old president, speaking at Red Rock Resort, fired off his usual list of grievances against political foes while discussing his trade war with Canada.
“Canada’s nasty,” Trump told the crowd. “They are. They’re nasty. I love the people, but they’re nasty. Nasty leadership.”
However, eagle-eyed viewers online noticed the president’s voluminous new hairstyle was visibly different from how his locks have appeared over the last week.
There also appeared to be a change in color from how Trump’s strawberry blond mane looked at Vegas on Wednesday compared to when he spoke on Fox’s News at Night on Tuesday.
His Vegas hair was also fuller than it appeared at a Cabinet meeting last Friday.
His trademark locks were also subject to the elements when he boarded Air Force One headed from New Jersey to Washington, D.C., on Sunday after a weekend of golfing.
Video footage documented Trump’s hair blowing in the wind as he waved to reporters, revealing more of his scalp than usual.
Online speculation raged over Trump’s tresses on Wednesday, with journalist Aaron Rupar claiming, “Is Trump rocking a wig, or what the hell is going on here?” He also noted, “Trump’s hair, uh, has a lot more volume than normal.”
Political commentator Brian Krassenstein posted, “There is no freaken way that this is Trump’s real hair. NO WAY!”
Even pro-Trump accounts noted the follicular glow-up, with MAGA Voice stating, “I do NOT care what anyone says. This is proof that President Trump is aging in reverse. His hair looks absolutely amazing today.”
The Daily Beast has contacted the White House for comment.
In January, a hair expert explained why Trump’s gravity-defying hair can sometimes appear to have pink tones. London-based hairstylist Gustav Fouche told the Daily Mail that the pinkish hue of Trump’s hair on occasion “could be related to toning.”
“To achieve a silver or lighter blonde look, violet tones are often added to neutralise yellow,” Fouche explained. “However, if too much violet is used or it’s left on slightly too long, it can shift the color and make the hair appear pinkish rather than cool or neutral.”
Regime Change, the acclaimed book by New York Times reporters Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan, also revealed one of Trump’s closest aides is equipped with scissors at all time in case the presidential locks need trimming, particularly at the rear.
“Trump had every comfort close at hand. His longtime aide and personal valet, Walt Nauta (who bore the title director of Oval Office operations), would carry around not just the usual personal items—makeup, hairspray, Tic Tacs—but also scissors so that Trump could snip his hair when he found that it was getting too long in the back, poking over his collar,” Haberman and Swan wrote.
In 2021, Stephanie Grisham, the former White House press secretary and chief of staff to first lady Melania Trump, published her memoir I’ll Take Your Questions Now, which was discussed the president’s grooming routine.
Grisham described how Trump sometimes cut his own hair using “a huge pair of scissors that could probably cut a ribbon at an opening of one of his properties.”
During his rambling 70-minute speech in Vegas, that touched on everything from taxes to communism, Trump referenced his extensive construction at the White House and the lawsuit which threatened to halt construction of his ballroom and bunker.
“Everything I do, they get sued, but I win the suits,” Trump said. “I think I’ve been sued more times than any human being in history.”
